When Should I think about booking Newborn Photos?

The short answer is this: at the start of your second trimester.

I recommend the second trimester because this will give you the perfect amount of time to plan ahead, shop around for the perfect photographer, and still be able to secure availability around your due date. I would not recommend waiting until your baby is born--this is stressful because, on top of having a brand new baby to care for, you'll probably need to contact several photographers before finding availability with one you really like.

How can i book a newborn session if i'm not sure when baby will be born?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions I get. Babies will come when they're ready, not when their due date says they are. For this reason, I use a two-step booking process for newborns. When you contact me initially, I will use your due date to save your spot in my calendar so I can make sure I'm not overbooking when your baby is expected to arrive. Then, when your little one arrives, it's your job to shoot me one more email to let me know; at this point we can find a session date/time that works for both of our schedules.

I just decided that newborn photos are something i want...but baby is already here. is it too late?

No! Not necessarily. I try my very best to accommodate all of my clients whether they've booked ahead of time or are contacting me last minute. While it's never guaranteed, I can usually squeeze in a last minute booking.

How long after my baby is born should i plan to have my newborn session?

My recommendation is to have your session within 5-21 days after birth. It's in the first three weeks of life that baby is the sleepiest, most flexible, and smallest they'll ever be.

BUT! This is not to say that an "elder" newborn can't also have a beautiful session as well. If you booked last minute and your baby is already a month old, or if you just don't feel up to traveling with baby yet, don't fret. I have had wonderful sessions with babies who are a bit older. But however old baby is, they're the boss. If they'd prefer to be awake, I'll roll with it. Fussy or sensitive to touch? I'm experienced and patient--we can make it work!
