Winter's floral Cake smash
Winter's mama came to me with a vision in mind--classic, timeless portraits with pink rose accents. I think the simplicity of the setup, along with her sweet outfits, made for some heirloom-quality images. She also requested a simple high-key black and white portrait, which turned out beautifully. For the milk bath portion, we included lemons--a little nod to mom's maternity session. I love bringing special customized touches into photoshoots.
I enjoy watching how babies react to their surroundings in a cake smash session. Typically I start off with a nice portrait before the messiness of the cake begins. Baby is center of attention with a large flashing light and camera in front of them. Some babies don't care at all and think everything is funny; others are more sheepish and may be uncomfortable. I try my best to go at baby's pace and take breaks if needed for cuddles or play. It's rare that a baby absolutely refuses any part of the photo session. The next portion is the cake smash. Some babies plow through an entire cake in one sitting and others don't even want to touch it. I don't mind if they're not into the cake. I take the photos anyway, because they're a reminder of the baby's unique personality and preferences. The last part of the cake smash session is the milk bath. This is usually pretty fun and the messiest part. Lots of babies like to splash away in the little tub. It's a fun and sweet ending to the session, and I like to snap a few photos here of babies tiny fingers and toes.
